A kind soul homeless man found six stray puppies and he left with a note that
tore at heartstrings

２０２４年１月、ノースカロライナ州にある『ファイエットビル・アニマル・プロテクション・ソサエティ』の玄関先に、
ペットのキャリーケースのようなものが置かれていました。中に入っていたのは…５匹の子犬。そばには手紙が添えられ
ていたといいます。動物保護施設の前とはいえ、適切な手続きをせずにペットを置いていくのは無責任といえるでしょう。

🐾🌈 A Glimmer of Hope in the Storm
In the wake of a recent storm that swept through our area, we experienced a
moment that simultaneously broke and uplifted our hearts.
This story is
a testament to the kindness that still exists in the world, even in the most
challenging times.
We found a group of puppies at our shelter's doorstep,
left with a note that tore at our heartstrings. The note was from a kind soul,
a homeless
man who,
despite his own hardships, took it upon himself to rescue these innocent
lives after their mother, a local stray he cared for, tragically
passed away. Here is what his note said:
"Please help! I found these puppies sadly
after noticing a local stray dog that I would often feed when I could, dead by
the road. She had been
hit
by a car. I knew from feeding her that she had puppies somewhere and after
searching where I would usually see her I found them. I'm sorry
for
leaving them like this but I myself am homeless and cannot afford to care for
them. My heart shatters for them and their mother. I just want
them to be given the chance their mother
like myself, was never given. Please do not think poorly of me but it felt
wrong leaving them alone
in
the cold waiting on a mother that would not be coming home. Sincerely, nameless
man."

しかし、手紙を読んだスタッフは感動。SNSで内容を紹介しまし
た。
「助けてください！悲しいことに、私がよくエサをあげていた野良犬が道路脇で死んでいるのに気付いた後、この子犬たちを見つけました。
その犬は車にはねられたのです。エサをあげていた時から、どこかに子犬がいることを知っていたので、いつもその犬を見かける場所を
探したところ、子犬たちを見つけました。こんなふうに放置してしまって申し訳ないのですが、私はホームレスで子犬の世話をする余裕が
ありません。この子たちと母親を思うと、胸が張り裂けそうです。私はただ、私と同じような母親には与えられなかったチャンスを、子犬た
ちに与えてほしいだけなのです。どうか私のことを悪く思わないでほしいのですが、寒空の下、帰って来ない母親を待つ子犬たちを放っ
ておくのは間違いだと思いました。敬具 名無しの男より」
この手紙を書いた男性はホームレスで、自身の生活が困難な状況にもかかわらず、その母犬に食べ物をあげていたそう。しかし、母犬が
車にはねられて命を落としてしまったため、残された子犬たちを探し出して、正しくないと分かっていながら施設の前に置いて行ったのです。
男性は、野良犬だった母犬が得られなかった、安心して暮らせる家や十分な食事、家族からの愛情を、せめて子犬たちには与えてあげた
かったのでしょう。そんな男性の事情と優しさが伝わる手紙は、スタッフたちの「心の琴線に触れた」のだとか。投稿ではその男性に向けて、
子犬たちを愛情をもって世話をすることを約束し、「もしあなたがその気になったら、ぜひシェルターに子犬たちに会いに来てください！」と
呼びかけています。そしてこの投稿の約１０日後、５匹の里親募集を始めることが発表されました！同年１月２６日現在、子犬たちを置い
ていった男性は現れていないといいます。ただこれらの投稿には、心優しい男性のことを気遣うほか、「彼を助けたい」というコメントも多く
寄せられていました。男性がどこかでこれらの投稿を目にして、子犬たちが安全であることと、自らに寄せられた人々からの温かい声に気
付いてくれるといいですね。そして、子犬たちの母犬もきっと、この男性に感謝していることでしょう。
